Biofuel Projects in India

Some Ongoing and Upcoming  Biofuel Projects in India Second Generation Biofuel Refinery for Punjab In October 2015 Punjab signed MOU for setting up of second generation bioethanol refinery with consortium of Beta Renewables, Novozymes and CVC India Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. The estimated worth of the project is Rs 950 crore and will use the huge amount of wheat and rice straw generated in the area as feedstock to produce bioethanol. The utilization of these agriculture wastes has been a major […]

Fuel From Halophytic Microalgae: Muradel

South Australia based Muradel Pty Ltd produces drop- in fuel from halophytic microalgae. Its trademark process produces “green crude” which upon fractionation yields drop-in substitutes of fossil fuels. The company was founded in Dec 2010 as a joint venture between the Murdoch University, Adelaide Research and Innovation Pty Ltd and SQC Pty Ltd. Feedstocks Muradel uses rapidly growing halophytic microalgae, biomass and organic waste streams. Their non competence with arable land and food chain as well as their low fresh […]

Plant to convert algae into crude oil launched by Muradel

In a major step towards production of fossil fuel equivalent, Australia’s renewable fuel company Muradel has launched the company’s first integrated demonstration plant to convert algae into crude oil at Whyalla. The plant is using Muradel’s Green2Black™ technology for the production of drop-in fuel. The plant has the capacity to produce 30,000 liters of green crude a year. If successfully scaled to a commercial one,  it will have the potential to produce 500,000 barrels of refinable green crude by the year 2019, a quantity capable enough to run 30,000 […]

Ethanol Production from Algae: Algenol

Algenol has it’s headquarter in Fort Myers, Florida, United States. Unlike many other algae biofuel companies with focus on more advance direct replacements of diesel and gasoline (drop-in fuels) Algenol focuses on ethanol production from algae through its proprietary ‘Direct to Ethanol’ technology. The company was founded in 2006. It ranks 25th in the Biofuel digest ranking of 50 hottest companies around the world related to biofuels. ‘Direct to Ethanol’ Algenol utilizes the strains of cyanobacteria (also known as blue green […]

Blue Petroleum from Microalgae

Bio Fuel systems (BFS) Bio Fuel systems (BFS) is Alicante Spain based microalgal biofuel producer company. The biocrude oil from its proprietary microalgal species is named as ‘Blue Petroleum’ and the industrial plant of the company is called ‘Blue Petroleum ONE’. BFS has developed and patented accelerated conversion systems to convert CO2 into energy. Blue Petroleum BFS utilizes autotrophic phytoplankton, also known as microalgae, to convert the sunlight and carbon dioxide into drop-in fuels. The phytoplankton is grown in glass tubes […]

Cellana gets $3.5 million dollar award from DOE (US)

US Department of Energy has sanctioned $3.5 million dollar award to Cellana, a company known to produce biofuel feedstocks along with various byproducts from algae like Omega-3 EPA and DHA oils and animal feed. The grant will help it to develop a fully integrated, high-yielding algae feedstock production system in its unit in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, USA.  The most advanced strain improvement, cultivation, and processing units will be integrated into their demonstration facility. This is yet another step in agreement with US Department […]

Algae Biofuel from Solazyme Inc.

Solazyme Inc. is South San Francisco, California, United States based algae biofuel producer company. Technology: Dark Fermentation Solazyme’s proprietary technology utilizes the oil producing ability of heterotrophic microalgae through their fermentation in the dark. This means that microalgae are fermented without the access to sunlight inside huge stainless-steel fermentors. The ingredients necessary for their growth are provided to them externally. This is a unique feature of Solazyme’s biofuel production technology. It is in contrast to the generally employed technology in algae […]
