Union Railway Minister Mr. D.V. Sadananda Gowda, on Wednesday, informed that in the financial year 2014-2015 Railways will attain the target of 5% biodiesel blending.
Presently, Railways require approximately two billion liters diesel per year which costs around 15000 crores. As per the minister mixing of 5% biodiesel will bring the cost remarkably down.
To attain this target the govt is planning to utilize the waste land across the country for growing crops yielding both edible and non edible oils. In this connection, work on policy making is already underway, Union Road and Transport Minister Mr Nitin Gadkari told the media persons.
