In a breakthrough decision, the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has granted Amyris Brazil the permission to use farnesene as drop-in fuel. The city buses in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janerio will have 10% of farnesene blended in their diesel. According to the directives, now, the composition of fuel will be 84% diesel oil, 10% farnesene and 6% biodiesel. From Nov 1st, the biodiesel portion will increase to 7%, thereby reducing the fossil fuel content to 83%.
As per the press release dated 16th Sep 2014, Amyris Brazil has been instructed to submit monthly reports on fuel quality. They have also been asked to send overall reports on fuel quality semi annually.
