    Nice blog Chetna,

So what could be the reason of not having any bio-fuel manufacturing plant in northern part of India, are there demographic challenges or import plays role in cost contribution or the availability of raw material (seed oil, algie waste, etc.)?

    • Chetna says:

      Thank you Sir.
The big producers export biodiesel to the Europe and other countries.
This is one of the main reasons for their being set nearby the coastal areas.

      • Shailesh Upreti says:

Hmm, make sense from export point of views.

But doesn’t make sense why there isnt motivation and incentive to use all produce domatically. We have high foreign dependence on fossil fuel and these producers indirectly reduce that burdon, then why isn’t Government offset the cost (if thats the primary reason for export) and buy from these manufacturers. Such initiative would promote manufacturing in other parts of India too.

      • Chetan Shukla says:

        Chetna,

There are no cost economics to export biodiesel. The rate for biodiesel in the U.S. is 50 cents per gallon. This works out to approximately Rs. 9 per liter. The cost of producing the biodiesel is going to be more than this value + refining has to be carried out. A biodiesel refinery calls for huge capex.

There are other biofuels that have better value addition but these are also in being produced in India.

  2. Thanks for the nice article on biofuel companies. I am interested to know whether the companies have collaboration with foreign company or not. If possible kindly mention the product analysis.

    • Chetan Shukla says:

I am from u.p. i want know about bio diesel pump is their any risk in future for purchase bio diesel and where we buy form diesel

  16. Chetan Shukla says:

    An update.

We are working on setting up a facility in Gujarat that will treat wastewater with microalgae and produce ABE (Acetone, Butanol, Ethanol) + Biodiesel.

Butanol is a better biofuel than ethanol as it is less aggressive on the engine than ethanol, it has a higher energy ratio than ethanol and can be added to automobiles without any alterations required for the engines.

Butanol can be blended in higher percentages to petrol than ethanol.
